| Posted by Steve.I always sit at the PC listening to itunes on shuffle so I will listen to stuff as random as Metallica, Ash, Sammy Hagar covering the Beastie Boys, Sunny Day Real Estate, Atheist, Nickelback, MSG, Joker, Guns 'N' Roses (stuff from the new record non the less!)- actually the 9 bands played before this track! Once in a while it will throw up a song that I haven't heard in such a long time and it stops me dead in my tracks for the duration - and today this has been one of them! I've never been a Marillion fan. I liked Kayleigh, which seems to pop up on local radio pretty regularly and channels like VH1. Ex-Marillion vocalist Fish was playing a solo gig at a venue close to me and I thought about going, but I had no Marillion (besides Kayleigh) or any of his solo stuff. I downloaded a dozen tracks but never went to the show! I actually brought the 7" single of this when I was at school - I have no idea why as I'm pretty sure I never played it back then. A shop near to my high school used to sell off singles that had been taken out of jukeboxes and I seemed to buy way to many with my lunch money at the time! :) ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve. We got Guitar Hero World Tour on Friday and it feels like it's been on the go non stop for the last 70 hours!!! I commandeered the drum set - it's fun but I'm completely useless at it! As Snowy pointed out, she can't believe someone that listens to as much music as I do can't hear the beat in a song! I did really well with "Hail to the Freaks" by a band called the Beatsteaks (only missed 4 beats) and I'm pretty good at "Beat It" by Michael Jackson. I say pretty good but that is below average compared to the scores Snowy was getting - but I can do awesome drum fills!!! And boy did I struggle to finish "Trapped Under Ice" by Metallica, on the forth attempt and I nearly crashed and burned on that one too. And I'm telling you now, it won't matter how much practice I get I will never complete Motorhead's "Overkill", "B.Y.O.B." by System of a Down or the video on display here! With this song I can't even get to the vocals - I have a complete lack of hand to eye co-ordination! I love the mini Van Halen in this video and all my teachers at school looked like that!! How uncomfortable does 3/4 of the band look doing the dancing about half way through the video? It reminds me of a dance sequence from Red Dwarf, and I'm sure somebody will come up with the name of the episode! ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve. Is it just me or every so often do you get an urge to listen to something from yester-year for no apparent reason? I'm guessing a lot of it is to do with the radio station I listen to. In between the constant airings of The Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and AC/DC there's an odd song that makes you go "I remember that one!"I've had an "urge" for bands like Gun, The Dogs D'Amour, Little Angels, Thunder and this lot The Quireboys (or on the other side of the Atlantic you might be familiar with The London Quireboys!) Formed way back in 1984 as the Choirboys, but didn't release their debut until 1990 and in their prime they supported the likes of The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith. All the above mentioned bands are from the late 80's and early 90's when I wasn't really into them - BUT I could name a few songs by each of them at the time and are now obligatory at the Saturday night 80's rock disco at Rock City, Nottingham. The track here "Hey You" was probably their biggest hit single in the UK - charting at number 14 and taken from the bands debut album "A Bit of What You Fancy. I don't think I liked them at the time as all I could think of when I heard them was Rod Stewart! Vocalist Spike has a very raspy, gravelly voice - maybe the sound of too many cigarettes? I'm currently listening to their latest offering "Homewreckers & Heartbreakers" which I have to say sounds pretty damn good! Why did I miss out on so much good music when I was a teenager? I discovered that they are on tour over here in December and I think a trip to Dudley may be required and I do think Snowy could get into this lot! ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve. It's been a while since a song from the Hard Rock Cafe stuck in my head as much as this one did - but I think we heard it at every visit in New York, once in Miami and probably in Key West too! As we didn't know who it was Snowy christened it "the one that sounds like Bad Company"! Just think of "Feel Like Making Love" Well I know nothing else about him or his band till I checked up on Wikki - he's a month older than Snowy! And Mel Gibson is his father-in-law!! He and his band has 4 records out - so if anyone can recommend any other songs worth checking out then please let me know! This isn't the version of the video that we saw, but it's a good version of the song. ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve. This is the first video for AC/DC's upcoming album "Black Ice" - their first studio album for 8 years - Stiff Upper Lip was their last release and it will be their 15th album in their career - roll on October 20th! I've just been reading about the ticket frenzy for their North American tour starting later this year. Their show at the General Motors Place in Vancouver sold out in under 4 minutes! A quick look on Wikki tells me that the capacity there is about 14,000 for concerts. I wonder if they would move it to the considerably larger BC Place next door? After you've read the lyrics and listened to the song do you get the feeling that this song was originally going to be called "Runaway Train"? ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve.A bit of a quick one here as we are supposed to be going out to see the ice hockey a bit later today! The Manchester Phoenix are playing the Newcastle Vipers - not quite Maple Leafs or Rangers quality, but none the less it's an ice hockey game! Loverboy are another relatively new band to me and once again they were knocking out records for nearly 30 years!! They're Canadian - so that's why they might not be too popular over here in the UK? :D I heard these on Manchester's 106.1 Rock Radio - the best radio station I can get in my work van besides my home made CD's that clutter up my van (and car!) This track is taken from their second record "Get Lucky" released in 1981. This one sounds a bit more poppy than the few other tracks that I have heard from them, but it is very catchy! Looking through on-line record stores it looks like it got a UK release (I can but the single for £4.99!), but how it did and how well they have done with other releases over here I don't know. But I have found out that they supported Def Leppard over here on their 1988 tour! ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve.September 2nd - that time of year again, erm, our wedding anniversary! This will be our Bronze anniversary (work that one out without cheating!) We have along way to go - my parents celebrate their Coral anniversary next month, and Snowy's parents are well past that! I can remember my Grand parents celebrating their Golden anniversary many, many years ago ( the party was in the room above the Butcher's Arms pub in Audley!!) So what songs can I remember from that fateful wonderful day? Our first song was "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica and you've had it! We has "The Power Of Love" and "Angela" from Frankie Goes To Hollywood and Motley Crue respectively and you've had both of them!! "Y.M.C.A." from the Village People... I don't think so! Now it gets blurry. I can only remember two others - one, our second song, still gives me nightmares - having to dance with my mother-in-law!! So that leaves this smoltzy ballad from Extreme. The best charting song by the band in the UK by a long way and still played on a regular basis on rock radio, where I have still yet to hear anythin from their most recent album! Anyway, Snowy - love you just as much T.T.F. x x x x x x x x Love you too softlad - Snowy. x x x x x ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve.Something new for you to have a listen to! Since I was a paper boy going back over 20 years now I have always brought or at least read Kerrang! magazine. Due to the changing trends over the years a lot of the bands featured there in 2008 have become irrelevant to me now. A few weeks ago the magazine featured a band on it's cover that they have never printed a single word about within it's pages ever and they labeled this band as THE best new band you'll hear in 2008. A bold statement indeed. I thought it would be another clone of somebody like My Chemical Romance or something like that, but I decided to check out the most recent offering ("The '59 Sound") and I have to say it is a stunning record! It owes as much to the punk sounds of The Clash and the Bouncing Souls as it does to early Bruce Springsteen! This weekend has marked their arrival on UK shores as they play the Reading and Leeds Festival this weekend and later in the week they are due to play their own headline shows over here - so a jaunt up to Manchester might be in order - if it hasn't already sold out?! This song is probably the most played track on my iPod at the moment - well it was until I got the new Metallica single; think I've listened to that 12 times in under 2 days! | Posted by Steve. The year of the Jedi, Snowy Snake for me is another no brainer of a song. For me it had to be the epic "Bat Out Of Hell" from Meat Loaf. This is the first track from technically his sophomore album (his first was released in 1971 - Stoney and Meatloaf!) This album marked the start of Meat Loaf and pianist Jim Steinman's fruitful partnership. Steinman himself has worked with some big names over the years; Billy Squire, Bonnie Tyler, Sisters Of Mercy, Def Leppard (before he got fired and Mutt Lange stepped in and the rest for them was history!) and even Hulk Hogan! As I have said before I like long songs and this is pushing close to 10 minutes on the album and it just flies by. I can remember having this album in the house when I was still in school as my dad borrowed it from somebody, who I have no idea, but I do know it is still in my families possession - I have it upstairs!!! Also in 1977 Star Wars was released. Miami reported it's first ever snow fall. The Chicago White Sox were the first opponents for the Blue Jays. The New York City blackout lasted for 25 hours and Son of Sam (David Berkowitz) was captured. Led Zeppelin performed their last ever show - well until last year anyway - in Oakland. Ronnie Van Zant, Marc Bolan and Elvis all passed away. The B-52's, Def Leppard, Dire Straits and Stiff Little Fingers were all formed. World Series champions were the Yankees, the Stanley Cup was won by the Canadiens again and Manchester United beat Liverpool in the FA Cup final. ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve. After leaving Mott The Hoople in 1974 vocalist and guitarist Ian Hunter released his first solo album quite simply called "Ian Hunter". The first of 8 tracks on the record was called "Once Bitten Twice Shy". Roll on 14 years and Los Angeles based rockers Great White release their 4th album "...Twice Shy" and on this record is a version of Ian Hunter's "Once Bitten Twice Shy". I have heard this song dozens of times and until relatively recently I didn't know that it was a cover. I think I heard a DJ on a radio station saying it was a cover version. LOad up Wikki and there it is 1975 - Once Bitten Twice Shy - Ian Hunter! This was Great White's biggest US hit (peaking at number 5 in the Billboard charts.) They were even nominated for a Grammy Award for it; apparently Hunter was not entirely pleased about that! ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve. This really has to be a no brainer of a choice!" How can you pick anything other than Bohemian Rhapsody from Queen's "A Night At The Opera" album? This song marked the decisive point in Queen's career and set them on the way to become one of the World's most popular groups. Bohemian Rhapsody was accompanied by a groundbreaking promotional music video (one of the first to be made?) This helped establish the visual aspect for the modern band! This song was released the day after my third birthday for the first time (then again in 1991 and 1992) and it was the last number one single of 1975 and the first of 1976 - it held the top spot for 9 weeks. Also released in the year of the Rabbit; Alice Cooper's "Welcome To My Nightmare", Fleetwood Mac's self titled release, "Born To Run" from Bruce Springsteen and Ac/Dc unleashed some "High Voltage". Some random events... A youthful Steve Harris formed Iron Maiden and after departing Hawkwind, Ian Fraser Kilmister formed Motorhead. The original Dr Who - William Hartnell - passed away in April. Jimmy Hoffa "disappeared" and The Rocky Horror Show opened on Broadway. Australia got colour TV! West Ham (Steve Harris' team!) won the FA Cup. The World Series was won by the Cincinnati Reds and The Flyer's were the Stanley Cup holders. And please. No Wayne's World head banging while watching the video!! :D ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve.Welcome to the year of the Tiger! It's official 1974 wasn't very good for music :) In the year that Tim Horton, Bud Abbott and Mama Cass shuffled off this mortal coil we celebrated the formation of New York's CBGB's club stalwarts Blondie, Talking Heads and The Ramones! Also forming this year was Van Halen, Helix, Krokus and Twisted Sister. Current Batman Christian Bale was born this year along with Buckcherry front-man Josh Todd and Yankee number 2; Derek Jeter. Some people may say that the arrival of Chad Kroeger this year may have been a travesty though! Not me though :::coughs::: Liverpool beat Newcastle United to lift the FA Cup in England, West Germany won the World Cup and in America the Stanley Cup and World Series were won by The Flyer's and Oakland A's respectively. The Godfather II won the Oscar. Musically Judas Priest released their debut Rocka Rolla (a truly bad record in my opinion!), two more albums from Queen (can you imagine that today? three albums inside two years?). Kiss self titled debut and second album Hotter Than Hell surfaced and the debut Rush album was released. As with 1973 there is a lack of decent videos so I've plumped for Kiss performing Strutter recorded some where in 2003 - just to confuse matters!! I was never a huge Kiss fan - but my respect for them has grown since I saw them at The Download Festival earlier this year. They put on a solid performance and had all the theatrics that is missing from concerts today. With half of the year left I have to say the Kiss performance will rank in my top 5 shows of 2008! | Posted by Steve.Welcome to 35 years of music! This is something I've been thinking about doing for a long time - and now here it is. I have to say this is gonna be hard to only have one or two tracks from each year, but I'll give it a go. I thought the early years would be pretty easy. How wrong was I? I had a list of about 30 songs and when I checked on you tube I had 22 videos to pick from, but having said that I use video in the loosest sense. OK, onto the first year of my life - or at least the last 33 days of 1973! The year of the Ox! Glam rock was alive and kicking (The Sweet, David Bowie, Slade, T Rex all released stuff that year.) On the heavier side Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple and Aersosmith were all on the record racks. One of Metallica's cover versions was released in '73 (Breadfan bt Welsh rockers Budgie) and we also saw the formation of AC/DC, Kiss and Y&T. The Sting won this years oscar and The Exorcist and The Wickeman were also released. The Stanley Cup was won by the Montreal Canadiens and the FA Cup in England was won by Sunderland. Golden Earring are a Dutch band and are still going today after being formed back in 1961. I knew this song from the White Lion cover from their Big Game record before I knew of the original! The only other song I really know from Golden Earring is Twilight Zone - released 9 years later! The video for this is laughable, but why bother with spending money on videos when there was nowhere to show them? In the UK at the time there was only really Top Of The Pops and that was more of a studio performance than a video show. Apparently the song has been covered over 250 times: Notable versions include Bryan Adams, U2, Crowded House, Def Leppard, R.E.M. and Carlos Santana. It has also been used in TV shows The Simpsons, The X-Files, Beverly Hills, 90210 and My Name Is Earl. Movie usages include The Break-Up, Pushing Tin and Wayne's World 2. | Posted by Steve.HAPPY BIRTHDAY SNOWY!It doesn't seem that long ago that I reluctantly posted a Nickelback video for your birthday - I'm not making that mistake again, so here's some thing from the year that you were born! I so wanted The Imperial March from that little film released in the same year that (a film no one would be watching 31 years later Ahem!) I know you like this one so if you can get of Guitar Hero On Tour long enough make a few minutes to watch it! In the UK this song is better know as "the song on the TV when the Grand Prix is on!" For those of you outside of the British Isles, BBC Television used the bass line at the end of the song as their theme tune. If you aren't Snowy and you are reading this PLEASE wish her happy birthday - she's feeling old :D ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve.OK then. Penultimate track for Rocklahoma bands for this year, but before I go on just honourable mentions for the bands that I haven't featured - either due to there being no decent video to embed or just simply not into them! Here it goes - Jetboy, Sebastian Bach, Bret Michaels, Night Ranger, Triumph, Pretty Boy Floyd, Every Mother's Nightmare, Trixter, Kix, Warrant, Axe, Steelheart, Zebra and Ace Frehley. I'm positive most of these will surface on the Jukebox at some point (I so do want to post Cherry Pie!) I'm not a big fan of Lenny Wolf with his band Kingdom Come, but I can remember this coming out and quite liking it. At the time I wasn't into Led Zeppelin and I didn't understand the comparisons - now I do! The band was chosen to open for the North American Monsters of Rock tour in 1988, (supporting Dokken, Scorpions, Metallica and Van Halen) and I can remember reading a bit about Metallica's Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield giving Hamburg born Lenny Wolf a ribbing every time he walked past them regarding him being a Robert Plant wannabe. This maybe another video I haven't seen yet - if I have I can't remember it (it's the old age catching up!) But I do know it's got nothing to do with T Rex!!!! ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve. Can you see a pattern to this today? Now I offer you all a bit of Lynch Mob - a band formed by ex-Dokken guitarist George Lynch upon the bands implosion back in 1989. Apparently Don Dokken can be a little bit hard to work with at times! Spokane, WA native Lynch was nearly a member of Ozzy Osbourne's band on two occasions. First time he was turned down in favour of Rany Rhodes, not exactly a bad guitarist to be knocked back by! After that he joined forces with Don Dokken to form, erm, Dokken. Between 1994 and 1997 the 2 buried their differences briefly, but the band splintered again. Lynch Mob is a bit of an on off kinda super-group and in away re-grouped to perform at Rocklahoma this year. This track is taken from the bands debut album Wicked Sensation. The album is OK, but maybe not quite as strong as you'd expect from someone like Lynch, also considering how good some of the Dokken stuff is! ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve.Representing Memphis, Tennessee is Tora Tora - named after a Van Halen song? Or the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour? This is a band that I "discovered" after trawling through the play list of Dee Snider's House Of Hair radio show. They weren't around for too long really - debut record Surprise Attack released in 1989, where this track is taken from. Sophomore release, Wild America, surfaced in 1992. Their third record should have been 1994's Revolution Day, but like previously mentioned Vain, their record label went under! Their early single "Dancing With A Gypsy" was on the soundtrack for Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure in 1989. 2008 marks the bands 20 year anniversary of getting a record contract and has seen them reform for 2 shows in the States, one in Memphis and the other at Rocklahoma. ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |

| Posted by Steve.Another band I'm not too familiar with and probably another band that didn't cross from the States to the UK too well either. I have a handful of their songs on my ipod, and they mix the hair metal era well with their Georgia - southern rock background, but I feel Jackyl are always going to be known for this one track alone! Can you name me one other song with a chainsaw solo in it? Or even a chainsaw being used as an instrument? ( Music Video. )( Music Lyrics. ) | |
